MDOC Releases for Yalobusha
No MDOC state prison is located in Yalobusha County. A person convicted there may be assigned to any state prison, regional or county correctional facility, or contracted placement used by MDOC. “County of Conviction: Yalobusha” and the current “Location” field answer different questions. Search by identity or MDOC number rather than assuming the person stayed near the sentencing court.
Leaving an institution can lead to parole, earned release supervision, another approved community status, or final discharge. Parole is conditional release granted by the Mississippi State Parole Board. Earned Release Supervision, or ERS, places an eligible person outside the prison while the person retains inmate status and remains under MDOC jurisdiction. Final discharge ends the applicable MDOC term or supervision through the proper certificate or order.
A Yalobusha County jail transfer to an MDOC officer is not a community release. The county sheriff's docket and penitentiary receipt establish the handoff. MDOC then owns the state custody record. The Yalobusha County released inmate search explains how the county docket, state record, and court order fit together when the custody path crosses systems.
Confirm an MDOC Release
The MDOC inmate search accepts a name or MDOC number. An ID is the most precise route. With a name, use the legal spelling first, then a documented variant. Open the full detail page and compare birth date, physical descriptors, offense, sentence, and county of conviction. A result row alone does not supply enough context.
- Search the known MDOC number, or enter first and last name.
- Open the detail and confirm at least two identifiers.
- Read the location, entry date, location-change date, sentences, and county of conviction separately.
- Treat the Tentative Release Date as a forecast, not proof that release occurred.
- Check the separate Parolee Search when parole may follow prison custody.
- Request the time sheet, actual release record, or discharge certificate when the exact event matters.
The MDOC Parolee Search is more release-focused for a person believed to be on parole. It accepts name, MDOC number, city, and county filters, including Yalobusha. An active parole record supports physical release from prison to supervision. Its absence does not rule out ERS, probation, expired supervision, another release type, or an unclear online record.
MDOC Release Search Fields
The official detail record mixes identity, location, sentence, and date data. Each field has a limited job. The example below reflects the documented MDOC format and should not be read as a record about a Yalobusha County resident.
| MDOC field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name and MDOC ID | Primary identity fields; the number is the strongest search key. |
| Birth date and descriptors | Help separate people who share a name. |
| Entry date | Marks entry into the documented MDOC episode, not release. |
| Location and unit | Shows the reported placement; it is separate from county of conviction. |
| Location-change date | Records a placement update, which is not automatically a release date. |
| Sentence and offense blocks | Show terms, offenses, sentence dates, and county of conviction. |
| Tentative Release Date | An estimate that can differ from the final release type and actual date. |
The official MDOC format example shows the exact Tentative Release Date label and surrounding fields.
The captured example demonstrates where MDOC places the estimate. It does not prove an actual release and is not presented as a Yalobusha subject.
Why MDOC Release Dates Change
MDOC computes parole, ERS, tentative release or discharge, and maximum dates. The calculation begins with the court's sentence structure and eligible pre-sentence jail credit. It then accounts for the release mechanism, earned or trusty credits, exclusions, forfeiture, mandatory terms, consecutive sentences, detainers, and approval steps. Adding the pronounced term to the sentence date is not reliable.
Mississippi Code section 47-5-138 permits up to fifteen percent earned time for an eligible post-June 1995 sentence. This supports the familiar 85/15 example, but it is not a universal promise. Habitual status, listed offenses, mandatory terms, loss of credit, detainers, and residence approval can alter or block the expected release. Other statutes address trusty and meritorious earned time, also subject to eligibility and forfeiture.
The MDOC handbook says eligible county jail credit changes the sentence-begin date. It also separates eligibility from final processing. A case manager verifies the exact date and travel plan, while the person must receive the proper discharge documentation. The Yalobusha inmate release date page covers the calculation and statutory limits in greater depth.
Note: ERS can move a person outside prison while preserving inmate status and MDOC jurisdiction until sentence expiration.
MDOC Release Versus Discharge
Several MDOC labels describe different legal stages. They should not be compressed into a single claim that the person is free. Parole and ERS both involve physical release from an institution with authority still in place. Probation can start without any state-prison stay. Post-release supervision is imposed by a court and follows its own terms.
| Status | Physical custody | Best confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| In an MDOC facility | Still confined | Current MDOC location and agency confirmation |
| Parole | Outside prison conditionally | Board action, actual release processing, and Parolee Search |
| ERS | Outside institution under MDOC jurisdiction | Time sheet, ERS approval, and supervision record |
| Probation | Community sentence, possibly without prison | Sentencing order and Community Corrections record |
| Final discharge | Custody and covered supervision completed | Discharge certificate or final order |
Disappearance from the Parolee Search is not proof of final discharge. The record might have changed, supervision could have ended, or the search could be incomplete. Obtain the discharge document or confirmation from the office that owns the status.
Request MDOC Release Records
When online fields are incomplete, use MDOC Records or the department's GovQA route. Include the full identity and MDOC number. Ask narrowly for the actual release or discharge date and type, public time sheet, discharge certificate, parole action sheet or minute entry, current supervision status, and correction of any disputed public field.
Mississippi's Public Records Act permits written procedures, redaction of exempt material, and charges tied to actual search, review, duplication, and mailing costs. Ask for an electronic copy when MDOC maintains that format. If part of a record is withheld, seek the nonexempt remainder and a written denial that names the precise exemption.
A parole decision may follow separate Board disclosure rules. Phrase that part of a request closely and provide any reason the Board requires for case-by-case access. Online disclaimers reinforce why a source document is preferable when a date or status will be relied on.
MDOC Release System Boundaries
MDOC is the right source for a state prisoner, state discharge, parole, ERS, or state community-supervision record. It does not prove a routine bond or dismissal release from Yalobusha County Detention Center unless the person later entered MDOC custody. For that county episode, request the sheriff's jail docket and release authority.
A federal sentence belongs in the Bureau of Prisons locator, not MDOC. Pretrial federal custody may involve the U.S. Marshals Service and a contract jail without producing a sentenced BOP record. ICE civil detention also uses its own locator. Each record ends only the custody episode owned by that agency.
No MDOC state prison was identified in Yalobusha County. The statewide system page and the local Yalobusha Probation & Parole Office are related through MDOC, but the office is not a jail and does not release people from a cellblock. It supervises qualifying people in the community.
MDOC Release Records Contact
The relevant contact depends on the record. The inmate and parolee searches provide public lookup routes. MDOC Records handles requests for releasable state documents, while the local supervision office addresses Yalobusha community-corrections matters. No publication cited a state prison location within Yalobusha County.

Bring or provide the MDOC number when possible. The local office page does not promise that case-specific information will be released by telephone, and it does not publish walk-in rules or an officer directory.
For a Yalobusha conviction, do not treat the county field as the prison location. Ask MDOC to identify the institution, the date state custody ended, the release mechanism, and whether community supervision followed. If the public detail still shows a tentative date after another source reports release, preserve both timestamps and seek the time sheet or discharge document that resolves the apparent conflict.
